Volunteerism is a major tool being used by the Organization to achieve its stated goals and objectives.
The functions of the following categories of volunteers that exist in HFFG has been highlighted further below:
* Community Health Volunteers (CHVs),
* Community Health Committees (CHCs),
* Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs),
* Community Based Distributors (CBDs),
* Mother Support Groups (MSG) & Daddies Clubs and
* Drama and Puppetry troupes
Community Health Volunteers (CHVs)
The Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) play very vital roles in the communities by undertaking home management and education on Malaria, Diarrhea and Pneumonia cases.
Community Health Committees (CHCs)
The CHCs supervises the activities of all the Community Health Workers. They also manage the Community Health Funds and support volunteers with logistics and working tools in collaboration with HFFG field staff. The Committee members liaise with the various project communities and HFFG. They basically drive the projects at the community levels.
Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs)
The role of Traditional Birth Attendants in the Child Survival project cannot be over emphasized.
Not only provide safe motherhood services, they also give education on nutrition, Family Planning, immunization and prevention of teenage pregnancy activities.
They are the first contact of the pregnant woman in the community. They provide all kinds of services relating to pregnancy and child care.
Their pre and post natal care is regular and reliable. The mother does not need to pay transport fare before assessing their services because the care is readily accessible, affordable and acceptable.
Community Based Distributors (CBDs)
CBDs undertake educational programs on Family Planning. They provide services on short-term non-clinical methods and make referrals for long-term clinical methods.
Daddies Clubs
Daddies clubs exist in the communities to mobilize male members to participate in the child survival project. They are essential to reproductive health. They motivate other community men to participate in family planning, child and maternal health.
Daddies’ club members are trained to also contribute to issues of safe Motherhood and to advocate on behalf of women and children.M
Mother Support Groups (MSG)
Another organ of the organization that assists in the dissemination of information is the Mother Support Groups. These comprise of women in fertility age groups. Mother Support Groups went through several capacity building and empowerment workshops.
Mother Support Groups are very important group in the Child Survival and maternal health. They facilitate educational programs on the safe motherhood and child care.
They sensitize women to access services that improve their economic status and promote good health.
Finally, they serve as advocacy group for women and children.
Drama and puppetry troupes
Community based drama troupes develop drama relating to social problems in the various communities.
They undertake periodic performances to educate various communities groups including school children.
HFFG as an organization welcome volunteers who share our vision and can contribute to the development of the organization to join our large group of volunteers.
HIV/AIDS Peer Educators
These are trained peer groups who adopt various participatory behaviour change techniques in educating their peers on HIV/AIDS/STIs prevention and care.
